MercuRea
Creative director
MercuRea made its debut as an accessory brand on 2008, created by Ana M. Valido, a spanish fashion design student; she started creating small pieces for herself and her friends, which lead to exposing her designs on various alternative events around the city of Seville on the years 2008-2011.
Being part of the early EGL subculture in Spain as a plus sized woman from a huble background shaped the perspective on how to manage the look in affordable and witty ways, which has translated into the brand in the premises of using sustainable yet affordable materials and upcycling as much as possible.
After settling down in Netherlands and publishing the ´Alchemy of the Soul´ and ´Sublimation´ books, she realised that indie authors needed a platform to give them a voice and support, and so this, combined with the desire of creating romantic clothing for the public again, made the rebirth of MercuRea as a full indie brand on 2020.
Not only the admiration for Lolita fashion, but also the sentiment that clothing should be practical at the same time as beautiful, consolidated what MercuRea would be from 2024, with new clothing lines focused more in cottagecore and romantic styles, without losing the historical influence from the EGL subculture
With a focus on sustainability and affordability, we believe in good care of clothing, infinite reuse and repair; Often the designs include vintage or deadstock fabrics, recycled or vintage trinquets, cabochon and jewellery parts; and the materials come from European suppliers, or ethical sources, as much as it’s possible to find.
These garments and accessories are made to be loved for a lifetime.
